2018 SEIU Local 2007 Officer Elections Announcement

OFFICAL NOTICE OF NOMINATIONS

Pursuant to Article 11 of the Constitution and By-Laws of SEIU Local 2007 (Nomination Election, and Installation of Officers) The General Election for all Officers and Chapter Delegates of the Executive Board shall take place on February 1st, 2018.

ELIGIBILITY FOR NOMINATION FOR OFFICE

Pursuant to Article 11, Section 1 of the Constitution and By-laws of SEIU Local 2007, no person shall be eligible for nomination as an officer, member of the Executive Board, delegate or any other office in this Local Union who has not been a member in continuous good standing for at least two (2) years immediately preceding the nomination and has during all of that time paid the full dues required for regular members of the Local Union within each month when due. The two (2) years continuous good standing period for this election is from December 12th, 2015 through December 12th, 2017. Additionally, no member who has been convicted of a felony as defined in Section 504 of the Labor- Management Reporting and Disclosure Act, shall be eligible to be nominated for, run for, or hold office in this Union during the thirteen (13) years disqualification period, as specified in the statute. The following officers will be elected.

Delegates

 

Stanford University – Three (3) Delegates to Executive Board
Santa Clara University – One (1) Delegate to the Executive Board
The terms of all of the above – listed offices are three (3) Years and shall run from March 1, 2018 through February 28, 2021. Pursuant to Article 18 of the Constitution and By-Laws of SEIU Local 2007 (Convention Representation), by virtue of their offices, all of the above – listed officers automatically serve as delegates to the SEIU International Convention.

NOMINATION PETITIONS

In addition to the other qualification discussed above, a nominee for the At-Large office must sign and submit an official nomination petition provided by the Union Election Committee which shall also be signed by a minimum of fifty (50) members in good standing.

ATTN: Members making nominations must be current in their dues payments as of November 30, 2017.

For nominees of the position of Delegate, petitions must be signed at least twenty-five (25) members or twenty-five percent (25%) of the members in good standing, whichever is smaller.

The Election Committee will make petitions available at the Union Office beginning on Wednesday, November 29th, 2017. The Union office is located at 466 Via Ortega Drive, Bldg. E Suite E-5, Stanford, CA 94305. The Union Office hours are Monday to Friday, from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Completed nomination petitions must be delivered to the Union office by 5:00 p.m. on Friday, December 15th, 2017.

The Elections Committee will review union records to verify the eligibility of all nominees. Those candidates who have been deemed ineligible will be provided with a reason why no later than Tuesday, December 19th, 2017. Placement on the ballot will be determined at the candidate meeting. If only one candidate is nominated for a particular office, s/he will be elected without further procedures.

CANDIDATES’ MEETING

All eligible candidates for office and Delegate positions must attend a meeting on December 20th, 2017to review and agree to the rules and procedures for campaigning set forth by the Elections Committee. This includes campaign restrictions, inspection of the Local 2007 membership lists, distribution of campaign literature, slate designations, protests, ballot preparation, ballot preparation and, if any, observers at any/ all polling locations. The location of this meeting will be provided when the nominees submit their completed petitions.

PROTESTS

Any member, who wishes to protest any aspect of the election, including nomination, should submit a written protest to Chair Election Committee person Dale Miller at
P. O. Box 19152, Stanford, CA 94305.

OFFICES WHERE NO CANDIDATES FILED FOR NOMINATION

If no members file or qualify for the nomination of the Officer Positions at Large or Delegate positions the current persons that fill those positions will remain. If only one candidate is nominated for a given office, that candidate will be declared elected without further procedures (Article 11.5.C of SEIU Local 2007 – HEW Constitution and Bylaws).
