Local President Withdraws Waiver of Eligibility Requirements

On January 10, 2021, SEIU Local 2007 President, Jose Escañuela, sent an email to the membership regarding his withdrawal of the eligibility waiver for the 2021 Officer Elections nominees. Below you will find a copy of that email.

International Constitution & Bylaws Article XV Section 2 Waiver (UPDATE)

Brothers and Sisters.

On Dec 21, 2020 I wrote to inform you that I requested, to our International Union President Mary Kay Henry; a waiver of the “(2) years continuous good standing rule” for eligibility to run for Local union office. Since then, several concerns were raised about the request and the manner I submitted it.

Last week our International Union advised me that the request was not properly made as I had requested it without the approval of our local Executive Board. On Thursday January 7, 2021 I put the waiver up for a vote to our Executive Board and the result of the vote was a tie. I since have withdrawn it.

My sincerest apologies for any confusion or misunderstandings this may have caused.

Jose N. Escañuela

President, SEIU Local 2007

This withdrawal means that for a nominee to be eligible to run for an officer or delegate position within our Local they must have been a member in good standing for a minimum of two years and remitted dues during the time in which they were due. If a nominee/ would-be candidate is delinquent in their dues because they were out an a leave of absence they will be provided with an opportunity to remit those delinquent dues.

Stay tuned for the next phases of the 2021 Officer Elections!
